Report says B.R. home prices virtually unchanged

A home price index in metro Baton Rouge dropped by less than 1% in March, when compared to the year before. That’s the third consecutive month the CoreLogic Home Price Index locally changed by less than 1%. The 0.8% drop comes after a 0.7% increase in January and a 0.8% increase in February. National home prices were up 1.7% in March when compared with the year before, while Louisiana prices were down 0.8%. CoreLogic says that as the recovery continues to gain traction, the home price index will increase.

But distressed sales are dragging the figures down. The Baton Rouge index is expected to go up by 2.19% over the next 12 months. CoreLogic bases its index on public sale records and databases.
